I teach in the mornings every day. I'll be teaching Reading, Reading Boost, Integrated Social Studies and Writing, and Word Work.
2015-16 will be my twelfth year as a classroom teacher in Burlington. I started off at CP Smith teaching 5th grade, then a multi-age 3rd/4th. I then made my way here to Champlain where I've been happily teaching 1st grade ever since. I love teaching students to be fluent, joyful readers. I am passionate about teaching young children about their many responsibilities as members of a learning community here at school, in their neighborhoods, in Vermont, and as global citizens.
I live in Burlington with my husband, James, and our two sons, Will (5) and Reed (3.) They make me laugh every day and keep me very busy at home!
In the afternoons, I serve as the district's Social Studies Coach for grades K-5. I work with teachers and other academic coaches in each of our six elementary schools to create units of study that infuse principals of equity and social justice throughout.
I recently founded my own consulting business providing training and resources that help teachers and other professionals be more culturally inclusive in our content, language, and practice. I plan to focus my research in these areas, as I've just begun a Ed.D. program at UVM this Fall.
I am so honored to have been named Vermont's 2015 Teacher of the Year. Click here to read Bernie Sanders' Senate Proclamation regarding the award!

I am very excited to be part of the Champlain community, teaching math and science this year! I have taught third and fourth grade at Milton Elementary School for the past 6 years, and taught fourth and fifth grade at the Renaissance School on Shelburne Farms prior.
I live in Burlington with my husband Matt and our daughter Violet.
After graduating from the University of Vermont in 2004 with a degree in Elementary Education and a focus on Environmental Studies, I had the opportunity to travel to Senegal, Africa, live in Caracas, Venezuela, and live and teach in Tahoe City, California.
I love being outdoors, hiking, running, swimming, skiing, and spending time with my family. I cannot wait to meet all of the amazing children and families here at Champlain Elementary School, and share my love of learning and teaching math and science with the class!
